What a shitty weekend I've had. As if it wasn't bad enough that it rained most of the time, I also had a bad case of narcolepsy and slept away most of my precious time off. And when I wasn't sleeping, I had this wicked headache, a brain tumor most likely.
Did watch a few movies tho. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which was ok but not as good as the first one, IMNSHO. Gosford Park, dreadfully boring. And The Bourne Identity, pretty good spy flick, much better than Spy Games or that turd, The Sum of All Fears.
Now the weekend's pretty well over, drag. Wish it was Friday night instead. Hopefully it will stop raining tomorrow. It's been raining since last Thursday and I'm sick of it already. This morning they were talking about it snowing in a lot of places. This is summer?
I was thinking of going to see this movie tomorrow, so I checked out a few reviews. Holy shit! What a difference in opinion amongst the reviewers! They either seem to love it or hate it, not many sitting on the fence with this one. From what I gathered in the reviews, this is a more serious film than your typical comic-book movie. I find that interesting and makes me want to go see it.
Started watching my shiny, new Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVDs. Finished the first season already, started on the second one last night. Pretty good show. [I just started watching it; yeah, I know, I'm a little late to the party] It's interesting to see how young they all were when the show began. [It's like a time machine hahhaha!] I like how they carry over ideas from show to show, and from season to season. In season one they have a show where this girl slowly turns invisible because everybody ignores her. Then, in season six [?] they had another episode where Buffy gets invisiblized and they really seem to expand on the concept and have a lot of fun with it. Very cool. Another first season episode has the slayerettes freaking out about a school talent show [because they have no special talents] and putting on a hilariously bad perfomance at the end of the show. Yet, in season six they have the musical episode [once more with feeling?] where the entire cast sings throughout the show, and does it very, very well.
Just a great show, I'm really glad I bought the DVDs. I've been watching the season six episodes on the Space channel as well, so it does get kinda confusing sometimes. Yeah, I'm hooked.
The new colour Blackberries look cool. Too bad their only available in Europe right now. Might dump my old BB950 for one of these if they aren't too big. Or expensive.
According to this thread, they will be going for 299 Euros [or 850 American dollars!]. That's 473.05 Canadian dollars [or 1,133.22 CAD!]. Well, assuming the Euro price is correct, that's not too bad. Hopefully they'll have some kind of rebate deal to go along with that price. Funny how the Europeans get this baby first even though it's made by a Canadian company. No fair!
A movie [Fargo] is made, based on a True Story [not really, they just said it was]. Film-goer from Japan, Takako Konishi, believes its true and travels to North Dakota in search of the buried treasure depicted in the film. It's winter, she dies out in the woods, from exposure apparently.
But it doesn't end there. UK film-maker decides to travel to North Dakota to make a movie about the incident, using a Takako double to recreate scenes with the locals. And finds out the true story, isn't...
My power amp's switch finally stopped working so I brought it in to get fixed. I used to be able to flick it back and forth a few times to get it to work, but it slowly got worse and worse. I think I was flicking that damn thing like a hundred times [literally] whenever I wanted to fire it up to listen to music or watch a movie. Hope it doesn't cost too much, I'm broke. The stereo people said it might take 2 or 3 weeks before it comes back. Bleh!
What a horrible week I'm having! It's been so slow, I get next to no calls most of the day. But then everybody calls me, all at once, late in the afternoon and I end up running around like a maniac trying to get everything delivered before everything closes. Very frustrating. I need a holiday man.
I finally got my blog back up and working. It all started last week when I saw a good deal on an AMD 1700+ at Memory Express. It was too good to pass up, so I went for it. [chip & MB for $180] I also picked up a new video card while I was there, an MSI Ti4200. [$190] My old system was a Celeron 300a overclocked to 450 and an original Nividia TNT. [16 meg] So I really needed a new system, nothing seemed to run anymore.
Anyway, I installed the new MB, chip and video card, fired it up and as it was doing the 'found new hardware' thing, it shut down. Fried my power supply. Guess these new motherboards suck a lot more power than the old ones. Next day, got a new power supply. [2 fans, 350 watts] Installed it, fired it up, everything works. For awhile.
Shortly after installing drivers for my motherboard, explorer informed me that it couldn't read my DVD-rom drive. [Retry, Cancel?] Windows knew there was a drive there, it just couldn't read any of the media. I guess the laser died. Back to the computer store. Got a new DVD-rom/CD-burner [$90] and 512 meg DDR ram [$80].
By the time I had everything back up and running, my ISP had changed my IP so I had to update my zone file and wait for it to take. Took all weekend, just came back up today, Monday.
And that is what I've been up to the last week. My computer is running much faster, but it's crashing a lot [driver problems I think] and holy shit does it ever run hot! It's like a part time computer, full time space heater.
